EPA Denied the Dangers of PFAs

You probably haven’t heard of perfluoroalkyls, (PFAs). That’s not your fault. You can blame the people whose job it is to tell the public about serious health hazards who utterly failed or refused to report on the chemicals in things like Scotch Guard, Teflon, furniture, gum wrappers, carpet, fire fighting foam and much more.

In a recent report by ProPublica, we have learned that the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have known for years that PFAs cause birth defects, cancer, and immune deficiencies, as well as a number of related health issues.

It has been public knowledge for some time now that PFAs are bad for you. We were told by these agencies that they were only dangerous in very high concentrations. But that is not the case at all- and we now know that these government agencies knew it all along. They let us believe we were only getting it in safe doses. Meanwhile, people were dying.

ProPublica tells us that the DoD and EPA calibrated their water testing methods so that only high concentrations would register. That means if you were getting small doses, they would tell you that you were getting no exposure at all. So at the same time they were telling us that small doses were safe, they were also telling us that we weren’t even getting small doses.

The PFAs that do the most damage were found in concentrations 24 times higher than what the EPA reported. This is, if we’re generous, a miscalculation that has placed over 100 million Americans at risk for serious debilitating and life-threatening diseases. At the same time, the EPA was intentionally failing to detect EPAs, the military was also using substandard tests.

According to the ProPublica report, both agencies had ample reason to know that these substances were present, and they intentionally employed measurement methods that would not detect anything less than very high doses. But wait, it gets worse. They also found that the positive tests they did manage to get- even with their grossly inappropriate testing methods- were not adequately reported on by either agency.

After full disclosure via a massive audit (which, no doubt, you have not heard anything about from the lamestream media) it was found that the EPA knew for years that as many as 33 states have been affected by drinking water that has been contaminated by PFAs. And the military only recently admitted that as many as 36 drinking water systems and 90 groundwater sites have been massively contaminated with PFAs. These are just conservative estimates from organizations that have been downplaying the dangers all along.

Think about it. These chemicals are in the stuff firefighters use to extinguish flames. When the firefighting foam gets washed away, it goes in the drain- into the water. This happens in every town, in every state all across the nation. And it happens doubly so on military bases where firefighting drills are run on a nearly constant basis. The fact is, the contamination is probably greater than anyone can guess.

We also mentioned that the toxicity has been underestimated as well as exposure. Politico released a report this year that reveals how the DOD and EPA pressured the CDC to refrain from warning the public about the toxic threat from PFAs. The CDC was set to warn the public that PFAs were more than twice as deadly as previously believed. The report was delayed, and when it was released- they made damn sure nobody heard about it.

And when it finally came out, it revealed that the toxicity of PFAs is 7 to 10 times greater than originally estimated. It also revealed that PFAs do not break down naturally, meaning that they are a constant threat once released into the water system.

These organizations are supposed to protect the environment, defend the nation, and control disease- but they do exactly the opposite.

Let’s just stop for a moment and ask a question. If you want to poison someone, how do you do it? You either trick them into consuming something that they know is a poison, or you tell them there is no poison at all. In the case of the DOD and the EPA, they did both. How long are we going to sit back and watch Netflix and chill while they sell us deadly lies? When are we going to stop assuming its all accidental?

The first step is to filter your drinking water- even bottled water. The next step is to hold them accountable.
