How You Can Alleviate Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue

Did you know researchers from the Department of Psychology at The University of Calgary concluded that Reiki treatments significantly improved the quality of life for patients experiencing severe fatigue?

This promising research bodes well for those looking for ways to address their Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) symptoms.

Let’s take a look at how Reiki may be of service in the reduction of CFS symptoms.

What Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or CFS, manifests in a person’s life as extreme fatigue and exhaustion without any visible physiological origin.

Symptoms of CFS include:

  • Poor focus or memory
  • Swollen lymph glands on the throat or under the arms
  • Pain that travels from one joint to another with no swelling or irritation
  • Inexplicable muscle discomfort or full-on pain
  • Excessive exhaustion lasting longer than 24 hours following exertion of a mental or physical nature
  • Sore throat
  • Non-restful sleep

CFS can be a symptom of an undiagnosed underlying concern such as a viral or bacterial infection, hormone imbalances or a compromised immune system. Risk factors include age, sex, stress levels and imbalances in the body. Because two of these cannot be biologically altered, the point of power is in targeting stress levels and imbalances.

What Is Reiki?

“I can feel the tension.” “Something doesn’t feel right.” “My gut instinct is telling me…”

These common phrases illustrate our ability to pick up on something more than what our eyes can see. Something just beyond our realm of sight, sound, taste and physical touch.

This “something” is the energetic functioning of our physical bodies. Through this energetic intelligence, we can pick up on subtle vibrations coming from people and objects. Everything is vibration. And these subtle vibrations are the foundation for the practice of Reiki. Reiki is used to balance the seven chakras of our bodies.

Chakras

Chakras are areas in our bodies where energy circulates in a circular motion. These areas can become depleted from acute or chronic stress. Chronic stress is all-too-common in today’s society. Reiki is one way to replenish these energies to regain balance to the chakras and promote clarity and calm for the receiver of Reiki.

A Reiki practitioner uses specialized hand movements to access the healing of the body through reigniting these energy centers. Reiki uses surrender, intention and visualization to support the body in its own healing.

1st Chakra: Root

Located at the end of the coccyx, the root is associated with feeling that we deserve to be alive, to take up space, to be here. It can be stimulated through visualizing the color red in this area, and a Reiki practitioner works with this chakra first, as it is the foundation for all other chakras. Each chakra supports the health of the others.

2nd Chakra: Sacral

Supported by the healthy functioning of the Root chakra and located two inches below the naval, the Sacral chakra is connected with courage and feeling deserving of pleasure in life. This chakra can be activated through visualizing the color orange surrounding this space.

3rd Chakra: Solar Plexus

Supported by the Sacral and located just above the naval, the Solar Plexus is our power center and involves our feelings of being able to affect our circumstances. This chakra is activated by visualizing yellow.

4th Chakra: Heart

Located at your heart’s center, the Heart chakra is the center of unconditional love for self and others and carries a green hue activation.

5th Chakra: Throat

Positioned in the center of the throat and activated by sky blue, your Throat chakra is your center for personal expression and feeling in control of your life.

6th Chakra: Third Eye

Located in between your eyebrows and activated by indigo, your Third Eye chakra represents your ability to trust yourself and your intuition.

7th Chakra: Crown

Your Crown chakra is located above your head, is activated by the color violet and pertains to your connection with your higher power.

Chakras are located vertically through the median of a person’s body, and their activation colors correspond with the colors of the rainbow, ROY G BIV from Root to Crown. Reiki practitioners can work with these 7 chakras, their colors and the feelings associated with each through intention and visualization.

How Can Reiki Alleviate My Chronic Fatigue Symptoms?

CFS is characterized by low energy levels and feelings of exhaustion. Reiki alleviates these symptoms by allowing for a greater flow of energy throughout your system and in stimulating your body’s own healing abilities.
