Hidden Dangers of LASIK Surgery

Are you thinking of getting corrective eye surgery? There are so many websites and articles touting the benefits of it to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism but not enough information about its potentially-devastating side effects. Before you book an appointment, you owe it to yourself to find out more about the dangers of LASIK surgery.

What Causes Poor Vision Anyway?

Although most chalk up their poor vision to an inherited trait, new research has indicated that the development of vision abnormalities may be the result of lack of sunlight in childhood.

In the case of myopia (nearsightedness), lack of sunlight inhibits the release of retinal dopamine, a key component in healthy eye growth and development. It is also believed that nearsightedness can be the result of the modern tendency to spend more time indoors looking at books, television, and computers close-up.

Astigmatism is the result of a refractory error caused by the cornea or lens being shaped in an oblong way instead of circular. This is usually an inherited condition; babies born prematurely may be at increased risk.

Farsightedness is the result of an image being focused behind the retina rather than directly on it. This vision change often occurs as a result of maturity but it can also happen to children as a result of an inherited refractory error.

LASIK Eye Surgery Could Permanently Destroy Your Vision

Here are the 10 most dangerous side effects of corrective eye surgery:

1.  Chronic Dry Eye

A common complaint among those who’ve received LASIK surgery is chronic dry eye. While it may sound like a small price to pay for better vision, dry eye can be very difficult to live with. You will be dependent on eye drops for the rest of your life and the dryness can make it difficult to focus and see properly. In addition, eyes that are not properly lubricated run a far greater risk of becoming infected.

2.  Double Vision

Those with astigmatism who have had LASIK surgery have reported double vision because of the different curvature of each lens. After the surgery, your corneas do not heal at the same rate or in the same way, which may result in disorienting double vision. Oftentimes, the only way to correct it is more costly and potentially-dangerous surgery.

3.  Poor Night Vision

Every patient experiences a glare or “halo” affect when looking at streetlights or headlights up to three months after the surgery. Unfortunately, for many, this poor night vision never corrects itself. In order to drive at night, you may be dependent on a prescription eye drop that forces your pupils not to dilate.

4.  Corneal Neuropathy

Aside from total blindness, corneal neuropathy is one of the most unfortunate side effects of LASIK eye surgery. Many patients complain of a constant burning sensation behind the eyes that sometimes extends across your entire face. This neuropathic pain is caused by damage to the sensory nerves in your eye. It is a very difficult kind of pain to treat and many sufferers have become suicidal because of it.

5.  Glaucoma

Glaucoma is damage to the optic nerve of your eye, which causes progressive visual field loss. Many patients who have had corrective eye surgery have developed glaucoma several years after the fact without having the risk factors/age for this disease.

6.  Cataracts

The type of cataracts developed after corrective eye surgery are called ‘secondary cataracts’. This progressive eye disease causes a gradual blurring and degradation of vision that can only be corrected by more surgery.

7.  Chronic ‘Gritty Eye’

If you’ve ever gotten a piece of debris stuck between your eye and your contact lens, you know the meaning of frustration. All you can think about it getting that annoying thing out of your eye because it feels like a boulder! Now, imagine having to live with that feeling permanently.

8.  Detached Flap

This is scary and kind of gross. After your eye surgery, your corneal flap is vulnerable to detachment. This means your cornea can end up crumpled up in the corner of your eye! When this happens, it means you’ll need at least one more surgery to re-attach it. More surgery always means increased risk and increased discomfort.

9.   Psychological Damage

Many who developed chronic eye pain or loss of vision have developed secondary depression and, in severe cases, suicidal thoughts and actions.

10. Herpes Simplex Keratitis

You may have heard of herpes as a sexually transmitted disease but may never have thought of it as something you could contract from LASIK surgery. After corrective surgery, corneal lesions may develop, resulting in the development of this infectious virus.

Improve Your Vision Naturally without Surgery, Glasses or Contacts

Even if you’ve been wearing glasses or contact lenses your entire life, there are certain steps you can take right now to improve your vision without the risk.

Eat an Eye-Healthy Diet

Your eyes, just like every other part of your body, need essential nutrients to thrive and function at their best. If you’re eating a processed-food diet, you’re not getting the nutrition you need, which could result in premature deterioration of your eyes.

A holistic diet filled with organic vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, meat, poultry, fish, and healthy fats is far better for you than anything you can find at the drive-thru. Beta carotene can also help improve the health of your eyes. You can find this essential nutrient in foods such as carrots, kale, sweet potato, turnip greens, dried herbs, lettuce, and collards.

Take the Right Supplements

  • Vitamin A – Vitamin A is an antioxidant supplement that helps the mucous membranes of your eye act as a more effective barrier to viruses and bacteria.
  • Lutein – This antioxidant carotenoid has been shown to protect your eyes from sun damage while keeping them healthy and strong.

Do Eye Exercises

You can also improve your eyesight naturally and reduce your need for corrective lenses by doing a few simple eye exercises:

  • “20-20-20”

If you sit at a computer for long periods of time during the day, follow the “20-20-20” rule: After 20 minutes of looking at your computer, gaze at an object 20 feet away from you for at least 20 seconds.

  • Pencil Push-Ups

This exercise helps strengthen your eyes and may even correct double vision and cross-eyes. Hold a pencil at arm’s length and, staring at a fixed point on the pencil, move it closer to your face until the pencil starts to go double. Slowly bring it back until there is only one pencil again. Then, move it closer again until it doubles. While the pencil is there, try to make it single again. Now, look at an object at a distance for 5 seconds, then keep focusing and re-focusing your attention on that object and the pencil. This retrains your redial rectus muscles.

  • Eye Rotations

Rotating your eyes can help strengthen your eye muscles and improve your vision naturally. Slowly look up and down, side to side, then all around 5-10 times each. Do this daily for best results. If your eyes feel uncomfortable, go slowly and work your way up. Eye fatigue and eye strain can cause slight discomfort with these exercises. Also, if you never exercise your eyes, they will need a bit of time to get used to it.

  • Focused Vision

Focused vision exercises can also help improve your vision naturally. When you rise in the morning, look outside and focus on an object as far from you as possible. Do this for 5-10 minutes, then focus on an object very near you for the same length of time. In as little as a month, you should notice an improvement in your ability to clearly see objects further away from you.

Now that you know that hidden dangers of LASIK, be sure to forward this important information to your friends. You just might save a life!

Perfect Vision Without Surgery

Have you ever heard of Dr. William H. Bates? Don’t be upset if you haven’t. He was born in the 1800’s and died over eighty years ago.

The reason I bring him up is because despite being born over a hundred years ago Dr. Bates did some pretty incredible things with his medical practice. His biggest accomplishment was discovering the cure for vision problems.

You’re probably saying to yourself right now that I must have gone crazy because there isn’t a cure for vision problems. Hundreds of millions of us still have to wear glasses and contact lenses every day to correct our bad vision.

Well you’d be half right. Dr. Bates did indeed stumble upon a treatment for nearsightedness, farsightedness, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other vision problems. How have you never heard this before? Well ever since Doctors and other medical professionals have been sweeping his discovery aside and discrediting his research.

That’s until modern day ophthalmologist Duke Peterson reviewed Dr. Bates work and realized that Dr. Bates research wasn’t wrong, it was just grossly misunderstood. He found that wearing glasses and contact lenses actually worsens our vision!

Using Dr. Bates original concept Duke came up with a short-cut to get your vision back, naturally and forever.

No more wasting money on new glasses every few years…yearly doctors’ appointments… contact lenses… cleaning solutions… or corrective surgeries.

What’s great is that even the American Optometric Association has been forced to admit it works!

If you are interested in finding out how to naturally cure your bad eyesight and throw away your glasses forever, you need to read Duke’s letter
