6 Great Home Remedies for the Flu

Nobody likes to get the flu. Most of the time, you can muddle through it, take a few days off work, or even work through it sometimes. But it’s always miserable and we’ve invested enormous resources to the effort to reduce its effect on the population.

Many of the standard and mainstream interventions for the flu have nominal results at best. Some are downright disastrous, as we have seen with increasing numbers of people who forgo the flu shot which our tone-deaf medical commissars tell us we can never have enough of.

Most of the time, all we do to treat flu is to cover up the symptoms with antihistamines and painkillers that only make you feel like you’re not sick. While you may feel better, the illness is still doing its dastardly work on your body while infected mucus is retained with very disturbing medical results in the long term.

Fortunately, there are better ways to treat and prevent flu other than just plugging your orifices with over the counter drugs. Here are 6 great ways to fight the flu without pumping yourself full of Robitussin.

Brew up an Immune Supporting Potion

The best way to ward off the flu is to strengthen your all-important immune system. A great way to do that in a pinch is to create a mixture of powerful immune boosting foods. Of course, it’s best if it’s palatable. For that, the following recipe from our friends at Healing the Body should do nicely.

  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • ½ small onion
  • ¼ tsp of turmeric
  • ¼ of ginger
  • 1 lemon
  • a dash of jalapeño or cayenne pepper
  • 1 oz of apple cider vinegar
  • A dash of black pepper
  • 1 half inch piece of horseradish
  • 1 tsp of raw honey

Blend this mixture thoroughly, add the liquid and dry ingredients after blending. This health tonic will keep in a cool and dry place for months.

Colloidal Silver

This is a powerful and safe way to kill germs and viruses that has been used for thousands of years. Its first recorded use was in ancient Greek and Roman societies. When applied correctly, colloidal silver is remarkably effective and has little to no taste when mixed with food or drink. It’s a great way to support your immune system while aiding the body’s waste elimination functions.

Oregano Oil

This is an all-natural and highly potent antimicrobial substance that belongs in your medicine cabinet, your bug out bag, and your emergency first aid kits. Use it to disinfect small cuts and to bolster your immunity. Just put two drops under your tongue each day to kill germs. It’s going to burn a bit, but it cleans the mouth much better and safer than mouthwash.

Eucalyptus Oil

This is another great natural essential oil that is safe and effective. It supports lung function and is a good way to help with congestion. Mix 15 drops in a large bowl of hot water with pink Himalayan salt. Then drape a towel over your head and hold your face over the bowl and breathe the steam slowly. This will dry mucus and enhance your ability to eliminate the nasty stuff from your lungs, sinus, and throat.

Vitamin C

Too much praise cannot be given to this powerful immune supporting nutrient. Unfortunately, it can be hard to get real vitamin c as most supplements contain synthetic or “enriched” vitamin c that contains broken molecules which do not perform as advertised and have even been linked to cancer. Lemons and oranges are a good source of true vitamin c. Some supplements have the real thing. You’ll just have to do a bit of digging to find them. The important thing is that you do your own research into any vitamin c supplement you buy.

Stay Warm and Clean

The one thing that kills viruses like flu faster than any other solution is heat. Taking a hot shower every day during the cold and flu season will go a long way toward keeping you healthy. If you do get sick, dress warm, wear a warm, snug hat and try to stay a bit warmer than is ordinarily comfortable.

In the winter time, our airways, lungs, and nasal passages cool down just enough to be hospitable to the flu virus. That’s why summer flu is so rare. So keep yourself nice and cozy with layers, wash your hair and body each day and wash your hands regularly. Also, it’s a good idea to change your bed sheets more often than normal during flu season.
