Chinese officials in the Wuhan province, the original epicenter for the global coronavirus outbreak, have revised the local death toll upward by 50 percent — clashing with Beijing’s earlier claims that it had contained the pandemic already.
The news raises concerns that a country-wide surge can be expected, and that a second global wave of the virus could be imminent.
For some weeks now, China has been making claims that it has got the outbreak under control within its borders. While the U.S. still struggles with the disease, China – the origin of the virus – is claiming to have overcome it. This is now proving to be inaccurate.
Many have commented that China has been simply falsifying its success to win a bragging contest with the United States. Fred Flietz, an official for the Center for Security Policy, recently stated that the Chinese government’s claims on beating the virus are not to be trusted, claiming that there is no doubt that they have lied.
“I think everything China’s saying about this is a lie and the problem is it’s going to make it so much harder for the international community to understand this pathogen and defeat it,” Flietz told Newsmax. “It started in China first. They have the data and they won’t share it with the world. The Chinese government also is still not providing samples of this virus to U.S. health officials. We need this information to cure the virus here, where the virus wasn’t supposed to be a problem.”
Flieitz adds that he agrees with President Donald Trump when he says that the W.H.O. is pushing the Chinese government’s agenda. He called the actions of the W.H.O. “appealing.” He said, “Lives have been lost in this country and all over the world because of their dishonesty.”
Now we have been receiving reports that the outbreak in China is coming back with a vengeance. This is terrible news for the Chinese people who have been brutally oppressed over the virus by their own authoritarian government. In the early weeks of the outbreak, Chinese officials welded bars over people’s doors and cages over their windows to enforce an early quarantine. Recently, when some of those structures have been reopened, many of the occupants have been found dead.
These are far from the worst horror stories to come out of China during this global crisis. Recent reports have made the claim that people have had their elder loved ones cremated while still alive because they were not expected to survive the infection. People were receiving pieces of jewelry mixed with ashes, items that they knew the person was wearing while still alive.
Meanwhile, Gordan Chang, a writer for the Daily Beast says that China waited until the 20th of January to admit that the virus could be passed between humans. He said, “I think it was deliberate not just to the U.S. but to everybody else. China couldn’t control transmission once it left China but I think the Chinese government wanted to hobble the United States.”
